As always, the time before Christmas was busy for members with bucket collections at three of our supermarkets – Sainsbury, Tesco, and Waitrose. The weather was fresh, to say the least, and the best place to be was in the Santa suit. Who doesn’t like going out somewhere to meet friends when somebody else cooks the food and you’re making money for charity at the same time?! It seems over 70 people were of that mindset when Caterham, Oxted & Godstone Lions held another of their famous themed evenings – this time it was Italian, with a menu of bruschetta, lasagne, tiramisu and limoncello. Entertainment on an Italian theme was provided by Tim Lomas who stood in at the last moment for Nat Rhodes, who had a family emergency. Read more
Adur East Lions kicked off their many Christmas activities on 1st December with a festive Bang.. Since November, they had been attending one of their local foodbanks (Shoreham & Adur Community Foodbank) to collect details of all the children supported by the foodbank. Over just a four week period, they had 61 children registered for their new Christmas Project. Read more

Caterham Oxted & Godstone’s highlight of the social calendar is their Charter Anniversary Lunch – 45 years this year since they were chartered by Lions Clubs International. A tremendous amount of work went into planning the occasion – the venue was Reigate Manor (which is just below the M25 on Reigate Hill) the menu, the Speakers, the Souvenir Program, the table plan, the flowers….not forgetting the raffle! Hastings Lions Club have made three more successful deliveries recently of Message in a Bottle to local service providers. 100 bottles were delivered to the Arthur Blackman Clinic and a further 100 delivered to the High Glades Medical Practise. 75 bottles were delivered to Mount Pleasant Court sheltered housing where all 60 residents were given a bottle for their own personal use and a further 15 and a display box were put into the main reception area. Two years ago Cam of Worthing won the Shipshape award at the Young Ambassador competition in Dudley. He had to wait until he was 16 to take part but this July he had the trip of a lifetime on board the Jubilee trust ship S V Tenacious. With him went last year and this year’s winners Kate and Imran. Regarding the resolution that was unanimously passed at the Multiple District convention in Birmingham last year, all new Lions will be as far as legally possible ( Scotland have different rulings ) required to be DBS checked as soon as arrangements are made with the District V.P. officer. All district secretaries will be asked to produce a list of all new Lions from March last year to the current date and arrangements will be made for checking of these new Lions. Read more
