The boys are back in town!

In early March COG Lions held another very successful Trivia Quiz night at the white Hart Barn in Godstone under the watchful eye of Quizmaster Lion Tony Skilbeck. Participants in fifteen teams took part in eight rounds in total including a picture round and some dingbats that baffled a few, alongside more traditional rounds such as geography, history and of course to finish off, general knowledge. There was and exciting finish with the top half a dozen teams all within a few points of one another. In the end “The boys are back in town” won by a whisper. They enjoyed their victory as well as a well-earned supper provided this time by Lion President Rita and Lion Sarah.

The good news is that a total of £1100 was raised which will enable COG Lions to help more people in the area.

Our next two quizzes are being held on the 13th June and 26th September 2026 anyone wishing to enter a team of four should contact Lion Tony 01883 335945.

Christmas

Fundraising

We got into the spirit of Christmas early with our stupendous French Evening in the White Hart Barn, the meal consisted of pate, boeuf bourguignon and tart au citron!  The entertainment was provided by a talented duo Kingsfolk, with French themed songs, with a piano accordion, violin and vocals mainly be Jocelyn Coates – shades of Edith Piaf and Charles Asnevour.  It was amazing how many French songs were familiar to all.  Very little actual French was spoken by the diners but a goodly amount of ‘Franglais’ added to the fun evening.  Oh, La La – how can we better this event?

A few weeks later our Father Christmas Float toured the northern part of Godstone and the Southern part because of the notorious ‘sinkhole’ problem, (there were also collections at Morrisons Oxted and Morrisons Caterham.)  The fantastic sum raised was just over £3500 with extra special thanks to The White Hart in Godstone which kindly donated the contents of a collecting box plus proceeds from a Christmas Raffle and a Quiz totalling over £600. Pictured is Charlie Davey, Manager at the White Hart pub receiving a Certificate of Appreciation from Lion Secretary John Quincey. Charlie commented; “Huge thanks to everybody who supported and encouraged our fundraising and to the Lions Club volunteers - Community really does matter and it’s a privilege to play a part in supporting it.”
