May Bank Monday saw the return of the immensely popular Tonbridge Triathlon.

The event is organised by Tonbridge Lions Club involves swimming in the award-winning indoor pool at Tonbridge School, a cycle discipline that covers the beautiful Kent countryside and a run within the excellent Tonbridge School sports ground, culminating on the renowned school running track.

Athletes came from all over the southeast of England including some of the top tri-athletes in the region competing over two distances, the Standard (800 metre swim, 50km cycle, and 10k run) and the Sprint (400 metre swim, 25km cycle and 5K run). There was also a sprint relay team event comprising of three athletes competing in one of the disciplines. This year for the first time there were two additional events to enter, an Aquathon (400 metre swim, 5km run and an Aqua bike (400metre swim, 25km cycle).

The Standard distance male winner Ben Hinchliffe from T3 Triathlon Club who completed the course in 2hr: 09min: 03secs. The Standard distance female winner Catherine Linney from Sevenoaks Tri Club finished in 2 hr: 46min: 51secs. The winning male in the Sprint distance, Oliver Waymark from Total Tri Training took 1hr: 09min: 50secs. The winning Sprint female, Susan Fairfax, of Crystal Palace Triathletes who completed the course in 1hr: 19min: 35secs. All competing athletes were presented with medals at the finish from Tonbridge Lions President Richard Hill with his wife Mrs Julie Hill.

Any money raised from the event will go to local charities and good causes”
