Picking up more than paper and plastic!?

Members of the former Zone 2B participated in a Litter Pick and Membership drive at the Big Park in Peacehaven on Sunday 25th June as part of a Zone Project.  Assisted by Lewes Council’s Community Recycling Engagement Officer, Zone Chair Claudine Rogers rallied the troups from across the Zone for a Project aimed at finding new members for Newhaven, Peacehaven and Seaford (NP&S), whose membership has been falling over previous years.

Whilst the Park seemed spotless on arrival, Members from Adur East, Rottingdean & Saltdean and NP&S collected several bags of rubbish (much to the delight of the council’s Engagement Officer).

Pictured with hoops and pickers at the ready are Lion President Colin Meagher, Zone Chair Claudine Rogers, NPS Member Terry Dezille, Adur East Secretary Colin Burt, NPS Member Mary Hemming, Adur East President Frances Burt, NP&S Member’s Francois Rabin and David Hemming.  Lion President Roger Bluff (from R&S), together with Colin Clarke & Derek Macgarvie from NP&S, also attended.

Sadly it was felt that the hot weather kept many people away and a decision was taken to end the event early due to the heat.  However, Lion President Colin was pleased with the support from neighbouring Clubs and also the two prospective members arising from the event!  Fingers crossed those prospective members turn into New Members in the near future.
