Alan passed away suddenly on Friday 25th of February.

This has left many saddened and shocked at the loss of someone so committed to helping others with such a positive can do attitude. He was helping others until the day he passed away and that is what he would have wanted. We very much hope you will remember the happy times and memories you have of Alan.

Alan joined the Farnham Lions in 2018, having moved to Farnham from Derby in 2017. Although he wasn't with the Lions in Farnham long he was an active member and signed up to help with pretty much everything.

Alan was Chair Emeritus of Toyota Motor Manufacturing (UK) limited and was knighted in 2005 New Years Honours list for services to the Automotive Industry, although this has come as a surprise to many who knew him in Farnham as he was naturally a modest man.

He was a well known face in Derby as he was one of the first people Toyota Manufacturing employed in the UK in 1990 and was there when the first car came off the line in December 1992. Having previously spent from 1958 to 1990 working for Vauxhall he was also well known in Luton and later in Ellesmere Port. Having started his working career as an apprentice at Vauxhall Motors, as he prepared for retirement he threw himself into establishing the Engineering Apprenticeships in the UK and was Chairman of SEMTA (Sector Skills Council for Science, Engineering and Manufacturing Technologies).

He was passionate about giving young people the opportunity to be the best they could be and in setting up the Apprenticeship scheme that continues to go from strength to strength he definitely did that. He was a good footballer from a young age and a life long Luton Town FC supporter, he maintained a passion for all sport throughout his life. He enjoyed watching Aldershot Town play after moving to Farnham and was also a regular side line spectator at Aldershot and Farnham Hockey Club where his daughter and her family play.

Supporting young people to have access to sport was another passion, he was even chair of the swimming club his children were part of although he only learned to swim himself much later in life.

Alan's family have requested that donations are made to the Farnham Lions so that they can use the funds to support various projects that he had talked about with input from the family.
